The transition to being a varsity mom

Super excited that she is coming home! You get her room ready, making sure that every corner and crevice is free from dust. The girl has hay fever and she is not sneezing under my watch! Well maybe not too much sneezing. Shop for her favourite snacks; cook her favourite foods.  As the days draw near you wait in anticipation and excitement

When the day comes the house becomes a beehive, buzzing with excitement. When you finally see her at airport terminal, although you never really felt a part of you missing, you become whole

I have anticipated these moments since she was in Grade six and I must admit I am handling this transition way better than I thought I ever would. Partly because I was so proud of this girl of mine. A poster girl for Grit. Quiet, determined… my girl makes me so proud. Following her passion; wanting to make the world a better place. Yes she always marched to her own beat. Kindness, compassion and calmness in abundance.  

So now she is home and immediately you can see the transition. She is more of an adult and a friend.                                

You are never quite prepared when your child leaves for further studies. Who would have thought that the tiny little blip that you saw on the screen was not going to stay with you forever. The tiny hands that would curl around your finger so trustingly. Those beautiful, big eyes which would follow you around in a crowded room and instantly feel relieved when your eyes make contact.  

And before you know it, the “child-moon” is over and she needs to go back.

She waves goodbye at the airport and you cannot breathe. Okay we got this baby girl (More like you got this mama bear!)
